There is an overwhelming amount of info out there and people are swamped. However, short pointers may be absorbed better. Each week, once or twice weekly, I will zero in on a specific area of job search, so my tips will encompass everything. A comprehensive offering will include one aspect of categories including cover letters, resumes, interviewing; effective networking and other issues that arise (references, thank you letters, Internet applications, and anything else pertinent).
Good luck job hunters!

  1. SO WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

It sounds like a basic question the interviewer might pop during an interview when he or she runs out of questions to ask. It may seem rote, elementary and hackneyed from someone who may or may not know what they are doing with you and throws it out there because it sounds good and makes the interviewer feel effective. Nevertheless, it’s a good prompt to highlight once more how you can aid the company by belief and dedication to its mission or purpose (making money or saving the world) and convey your enthusiasm. You can say you are a natural for this field or are attracted to this endeavor because (reason). Or, if transferring over from a parallel industry, tell the employer that you can easily adapt your strengths and accomplishments to this new area and then illustrate how. Add the fact that opportunities in your original field are transforming into this new area and what you offer, ties in nicely. Every interview prompt is a chance to strut your stuff. Some questions such as this one may seem silly, trite and annoying but the interviewer is doing the work for you by initiating questions in which your answers will help strengthen your case that you desire this job in this field. The why-you-chose-this-field question, if you haven’t already brought up the topic yourself, is a gift from the interviewer. Use it to your advantage.
